Now that it’s the festive season, most of the major make-up labels have had or are having sales and discount codes online. Buying make-up for 15, 20, sometimes as much as 30% off is extremely tempting for us make-up junkies as we focus on the “good deals”. Throw in a free-shipping offer and bam, out comes the credit card. Eeep:( I’m always so tempted to “save” as much as possible, which really only leads to massive overspending.
Which, is the sole purpose of such codes etc: to make us spend more. And the fact that the labels keep offering these codes is a testament that they are working. I wanted to buy all the things I have not had the opportunity to try since I try to maintain a sensible beauty budget, but it is awfully tempting to go overboard. Especially when there is a spending limit to get the free shipping and/or to qualify for the promo code. Big sigh.
My coping strategy was to buy only the specifics that I’ve been salivating over for a long time…and nothing more. Even if it meant only one item per site, which kept the cost per site very low, but the total was pretty hefty. Budgeting for beauty sometimes means learning how to tell yourself “NO”.
YSL Volupte Sheer Candy in Lush Coconut-20% code plus free shipping.
DioSkin Nude Natural Glow Creme-Gel Makeup SPF 20 & Shiseido Make-up Facial Cotton-$15 off a $50 purchase. Bought in store so no shipping.
Chanel Le Volume Mascara-15% code plus free shipping from SAKS (not photographed).
NARS Liberte Blush-20% code plus free shipping. Can I say how much I absolutely love this! Kicking myself for not buying it months ago when everybody was raving about it.
I’m on a major savings quest for a trip to Africa to see my family in 2013 so I suspect there will be more of these type of post rather than “haul” posts in the future. How much can I save rather than how much can I spend. Wish me luck
