Time for a Closet Make Over – Please HELP!

So….once again my closet has taken on a life of its own.  I really try to keep a handle on it, but between the boxes; the clothes I wear and those for donation; the shoes strewn on the floor; and the general limited space… I think I’m screwed.  I clear it up every few months or so, but right now it looks like this… pretty damn bad.

Shoes, bags, clothes, oh my:(

I need a more permanent solution, but so far my action has been limited to watching YouTube videos for inspiration, and drooling over $1000 closet systems at Home Depot, but not actually doing anything.  I’m hoping that posting this mess will shame me into cleaning it up for a “look-how-far-I’ve-come” video.

A box with my self-birthday gift, shoes boxes for organizing but have yet to use and my “empties” bag.

I know I should start with the simple step of buying matching slim hangers at Costco… but I tend to have a Costco problem.  I go in there for one item, and I come out having spent $100:(

My purses (in dustbags), looking pitiful in a sweater hanging system.

Basically my closet is wide, very wide, about 9feet wide, but it’s only about 3feet deep.  It is considered a “walk-in closet”, but the walking inside of it includes stepping in, and then shuffling sideways.  And then it’s tall, so there’s lots of wasted spaced up top.  Does that make sense.  I hope it does… because I need help!!  People, what should I do about this??  Motivate me!

Stay blessed.

Lots of under-utilized space up top- more purses and shoes.

P.S. since writing this I have separated the dresses, removed heavy coats and kind of reorganized the purses.  I’ve also tried to convince my husband to move the shelving up another 10inches or so, but he hasn’t actually processed the idea.  Progress?  Still no hangers though.

  1. Nice Post Neo. My closet is about the same size as yours and it does get messy a lot too.

I like the fact that yours is bright and looks airy (I need to change my closet color..:))
Also it would be great if hubby can move the shelves higher so you can make use of the space on top. I would also suggest keeping the shoes and bags in the same area.

Nevertheless, I think it still looks great. Thanks so much for sharing.

  2. Well, nice to know you think it looks great… I’m still distraught over it. The clothes in between the hanging shoes and hanging bags are what is to be donated in the near future. I need to get on that.

Actually, maybe I should paint the walls a different colour other than white.
