Travels to San Diego…

The clan recently traveled to San Diego for Memorial Day this year.  My husband is a veteran so I always like to do something special for him.  Our trip was very impromptu, and not very well planned unfortunately, but we still had a lot of fun family time.  This one is pic heavy!

Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego

For example, I was that girl at the beach with a designer bag in the sand:(  Why you ask?  Well, I thought we were going to check in to the hotel first.  My husband on the other hand, drove straight to the damn beach.  LOL, then I got out the car and started walking towards a restaurant while his butt took out the beach stuff and headed to the water!  Ugghhh – really?  I didn’t even have a chance to put my bathing suit on!

Pumpkin having fun

We also went to the San Diego Zoo.  Personally, I hate zoos.  I’m from Africa.  I’ve been on safari and camping in the real bushveld.  So… zoos break my heart.  Don’t get me wrong, I understand the need for zoos; us Africans (& others) haven’t done a good job of taking care of our wild animals.  But it’s heartbreaking to see an elephant in an 1 acre pen when you have seen them roam freely in the wild.

But, rant over, where in the world would I have seen a panda in real life???  I guess that is the beauty of zoos, helping us conserve animals.

Hippo looking sad
At least the gorilla had a very large enclosure!
Can you spot the baby panda??
Seriously, where in the world would I have seen a Panda in real life.

Thought I should finish off on a high note.  Here are some pics taken during a game drive at a place called Mokolodi Nature Reserve in Botswana, Africa.  It’s a conservation reserve with rhino  and cheetah breeding programs.  It’s close to a large city which makes it great for a one day game drive.

Hubby and a Kudu

We had lunch in the open air restaurant that has a waterhole right in front of it.  Hubby decided to take close pics of the Kudu, and I thought it was going to charge my hubby… now that would have been entertaining.

Loving elephants
Gazelles

Hope you enjoyed my little travel post, and a little bit more about my life in Africa.  As much as I love traveling around America and Europe, to me, nothing beats traveling to Africa.

What about you, any exciting travels?  Are you that girl with a designer bag on the beach, trying not to get sand in it??

Thanks for stopping by and stay blessed ladies!

  1. Very lovely pictures; I totally love them all. I didn’t know you have direct African roots and that was good to know from reading this post.
I’m glad you had great fun sans the cute bag on the sand…:)

  2. hi Beauty! Yes I am, only came to the US a few years ago (well, 16 but who’s counting). My country will always be “home” to me and I love going to visit my family.

LOL, my husband couldn’t care less about my bags so he was not remotely interested in my sob story. And the car was too far away to take it back:( In the end I thought it was more important to enjoy my time with the family instead of fussing over a purse.
