The thing is… Botswana Part 1

I really wanted to do one of those exciting travel posts about our recent trip to Botswana. But well, the thing is…. this was first and foremost, a business trip, I had so much to do.  Second, both pumpkin and I got a little sick – not a good look for blog pics. Third, most of my pics are with family; and I don’t want to put them up on the blog, nor do I have permission to.  So, even though I had a lot of pics to sort through, many aren’t going to go up on the blog.
Hope you do enjoy these few snaps.
We traveled from where we live to JFK, then to Johannesburg and then finally through to Botswana.  Pumpkin did exceptionally well on all the flights:)

I used to live right down the street from this hotel.  So we visit for tea, lunch, swimming and drinks every time I go to Botswana.  It’s no longer the most prestigious hotel in the country, but it holds a lot of memories for me.
Part of the “Downtown” skyline
The city of Gaborone changes so much between each visit and has a new CBD area – buildings are constantly going up.  And traffic is hellish.  I was surprised to see so many Range Rovers all over the city.  Supposedly you haven’t made it unless you drive one.
Skinny cows looking for food
There’s a rather bad drought ravaging the country.  Apparently, the main dam has less than 20% water.  There were constant electricity black-outs and water rationing during our visit. Much of the country’s wealth is in our cows, but now you see herds of skinny cows roam the city looking for grass. It is very sobering.
My sister’s neighbors house- apparently everybody refers to it as an “industrial park” – I absolutely adored it!
Now that’s a gate!

One of my sister’s lives in an upscale neighborhood called Phakalane.   It sometimes upsets me when I Google Earth it for folks that they are surprised to see such a neighborhood “in Africa”.  I blame it on ignorance.

We also got the opportunity to see something pretty amazing.  A white lioness gave birth right in front of us! We were at a small animal sanctuary on a military base so my daughter could see some wild animals – mainly snakes, cheetah, leopard and lions.  Honestly, we didn’t even realize that it was giving birth.  We were standing fairly close and wondering why it seemed a little “off”, as in not moving away from us, when it stood up and out slid a cub.  It was pretty amazing, and horrifying, and totally unexpected.  Therefore… no pictures:(

But I did get this picture of older cubs.

I’m still waiting on my sis to send me the rest of the pics from the sanctuary. I wonder how many of them I can post anyway, since it was mainly family posing in front of the animals.  Still, it was pretty cool.

Till then, thanks for stopping by:)
And as always, stay blessed.
