As a citizen of the world, I’m embarraased to admit that I had to look up the definition of “typhoon”.
HURRICANE? CYCLONE? TYPHOON?: They’re all the same, officially tropical cyclones. But they just use distinctive terms for a storm in different parts of the world. Hurricane is used in the Atlantic, Caribbean Sea, central and northeast Pacific. They are typhoons in the northwest Pacific. In the Bay of Bengal and the Arabia Sea, they are called cyclones. Tropical cyclone is used in the southwest India Ocean; in the southwestern Pacific and southeastern India Ocean they are severe tropical cyclones.Source
Even though I sometimes suffer from donor fatigue, I also know how far a donation can go.
Please donate: safely, to an organization that is already on the ground in the Philippines, and to one that gives MOST (if not all) of your donation to the people who need the help rather than to administrative costs. Catholic Relief Services (which has been active in the Philippines since 1945) and the Philippines Red Cross are two good starting points.
If donating is not an option, please: a prayer, a thought, a moment of silence, a re-direction of your positive and loving energy towards humans in the affected areas…. any small step will help.
I know this blog is light-hearted and about glamour, luxury and perhaps frivolity. But these are my small way of celebrating life in just one of its many complexities. Let’s help the Phillipinos, and celebrate and bless the lives that were lost and those that remain.
*Please do your research before donating to any organization.
