How is it already May?
These are my products, all used up. I think I did a pretty good job these past few months. I know some of you are probably wondering – what’s with all the empties posts? But really, I get a good sense of accomplishment from finishing some of these products – see, I’m not some crazy make-up hoarder, I actually DO use some of this stuff!
March April Empties
estee lauder doublewear concealer in Deep and Guerlain MaxiLash mascara
Estee Lauder DoubleWear Stay in Place Concealer in Deep – already repurchased. HG material and the colour and coverage is spot-on. Don’t sleep on Estee Lauder, they have some good products.
Guerlain Maxi-Lash Mascara – this did nothing for me. It was slightly dry and flaky straight out of the tube, and I had to curl my lashes and apply about 5 coats to look like I had only one coat on. Extremely disappointing. Will not re-purchase. I have no issues spending $30 on mascara, but for that kind of money I expect better.
Cerave Facial Moisturizing Lotion, Chanel Makeup Remover, Mac Fix+, Juice Apple Peel and Almay wipes
Almay Oil-free Makeup Remover Towlettes – The last type of facial wipes I purchase, promise! I keep giving up on facial wipes as for me, I find that they are an ineffective cleansing method, but yet a packet always finds its way into my product stash. And then I feel compelled to use them. No more. Will not purchase this, and will try to avoid the rest as well.
Chanel Gentle Biphase Eye Makeup Remover – ahhh, HG material for me. I really enjoy this product and find it effective and non-greasy. The price is on the high side but I find that a bottle can easily last 5-6months, thereby making the purchase less painful. Planning on repurchasing in the near future, but have some other makeup removers that I wish to finish first.
Cerave Facial Moisturizer Lotion SPF 30 – I wanted a day lotion with high SPF so my dermatologist recommended this one. It did not leave me with a white film, but it did feel a little greasy on the skin. By the end I would mix it with lighter moisturizers to minimize the oiliness. Summer is upon us here in AZ so I will probably repurchase.
skincare and makeup empties
MAC Fix+ – I started off really loving this. Not so much for “fixing” my make-up but for the cooling sensation on my skin at the end of the make-up application process. I also liked to spray it on my brushes as I apply the makeup. A decent product, glad I bought it and might repurchase. But right now I’m enjoying my Caudalie Grape Water so I’ll hold off.
Juice Green Apple Peel Sensitive – this I liked a lot. I’m always wary of “peels” as I have fairly sensitive and dry skin, but this left my skin feeling smooth, exfoliated and with NO burning sensation. The only con is the jar it comes in, dipping my finger in the small jar felt a bit unsanitary so I will have to get a spatula for future use. Definitely on my wishlist.
DevaCurl Set it Free Leave-in Conditioner
Hair Care & Miscellaneous
DevaCurl Set it Free Leave-in Conditioner – definite repurchase. Great leave in, kept our hair moisturized without getting tacky or brittle. Also made detangling so much easier. Great product, get it.
Samples – La Prairie, Molton Brown, YSL, Mac, Boscia and Amore Pacific
So many samples this month. I have quite a huge apothecary jar full of samples and I’m diligently trying to make my way through them. I will only discuss the samples that were big enough to use more than 2x and/or the ones I really loved or really hated. Hope that makes sense.
La Prairie Cellular Mineral Face Exfoliator – The first time I used this I actually screamed in pain. to be honest, I didn’t read the packet and thought it was a cleanser, and therefore I was totally unprepared for how abrasive this is. It is a clear liquid with pink crystals in it, and boy, are they sharp. The sample was generous so I had the chance to try it a second time. It was slightly less painful, but still stinging. I didn’t see blood or anything, but beauty doesn’t have to be this much pain. Maybe I just had a bad sample, either way, I tossed this even though I could have gotten another use or two out of it. Not recommended
La Prairie Anti-Aging Emulsion SPF 30 – I think I liked this one. I have one more sample to work through, but I think I will place on my wishlist.
Boscia Oil-free Daily Hydration SPF 15 – this is so remarkably disappointing Absolutely non-moisturizing. Granted I have dry skin, with dry patches and all, but I would put this on, and just watch my skin continue to stay scaly and ashy afterwards. Maybe it’s for folks with oilier skin, but for me it was a total dud. and I hate it when these deluxe samples are total duds.
Mac Prep & Prime Face Protect SPF 50 – my boss highly recommended this because of the high SPF. It was not greasy and it didn’t leave that white film on my face. I used the sample for about 5 days and I think I was starting to break out around day 4-5. Wasn’t totally sold on it. But I didn’t totally hate it either. Maybe I should try get another sample?
Molton Brown Orange & Bergamot Body Wash – these always have the most heavenly scents. And they get nice and foam and bubbly without becoming too drying. I always say I will buy a full size product, but then I never do.
YSL Youth LiberatorCreme SPF 15
La Prairie Cellular Eye Contour Eye Cream
Epionce Milky Lotion Cleanser
Epionce Milky Lotion Cleanser
Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Serum
Maybelline FitMe Concealer in 335
Maybelline FitMe Concealer in 335 – wrong shade. Tried to use it to highlight or something but I just couldn’t get it to work without looking ashy. Mixing it with other concealers didn’t work either. Luckily it was cheap so it’s best to cut my losses.
Wet’n’Wild MegaLast Nail Polish – total impulse buy and a total waste of money. This just looked bad. I’m usually fan of this type of vampy colour as I want that dark look; but this was completely transparent at the same time. And no amount of additional coats could help its cause. It always applied unevenly and looked like a really shitty manicure. I don’t even paint my nails that often so I don’t want to paint them and have them look like rubbish on day one. Ick.
There you go, a bag full of empty beauty products!
Makeup – 2
Skincare – 6
Samples – lots (yeah!)
Tossed – 2
Not bad huh, what have you used up this month. As fun as it is to buy, it’s even more satisfying to use it all up!
Stay blessed and thank you for stopping.
