Recent Beauty Purchases – La Mer The Powder

*This item was purchased with my own money.

I was a bit wary of purchasing this product based on the price point and what appears to be a limited shade selection.  Plus, what with my dry skin and all, I’m not usually a fan of powder products, loose or otherwise.  But boy, am I glad I splurged on this!

La Mer The Powder and La Mer samples

I was lucky enough to receive a sample of this in the colour Beige.  The sales associate at Neiman Marcus made the sample by dumping a little bit into a small jar.  It was truly appreciated.  However, when I went to purchase it, I accidentally purchased the colour Neutral!  But luckily this has allowed me to do a comparison of the two.  I did like the Neutral shade, but I did end up exchanging it for the Beige.  For reference, I’m a NW43 in most MAC foundations and #94 in Chanel Perfection Lumiere.

Samples: Creme de la Mer Moisturizing Lotion and & Moisturizing Soft Cream

The La Mer Powder comes in a heavy glass bowl that is NOT travel safe.  But there’s 25g of product in there, so even though it’s pricey, I’m pretty sure this will last a good 2-3 years.  I use it as a finishing powder.  Honestly, it’s the best I have.  I don’t really like powder products as I’m always nervous that they will make me look cakey and highlight my dry patches, but this…. none of those issues with this airy lightweight product.

The powder puff actually makes me look more flawless, but I also feel like I use a whole lot more product when I use the puff.  I’ve been using my Ecotools powder brush and so far so good.  Although I have to tell you, using something this luxurious high makes me feel like I need to up my brush game.

Beige (L) and Neutral (R) heavy swatches
Beige (L) and Neutral (R) buffed in lightly, left a bit of colour so they would show up

The Neutral has a bit more shimmer/pearlessance than the Beige.  It’s a bit more pink/white while the Beige is more beige.  It took me longer to buff the Neutral into my skin, and if I wasn’t careful, I would look a little pale.  So, since I’m not one to buff and buff and buff, I was happy to go and exchange this for the right product.

All in all, I highly recommend this product.  It’s an ouch upfront, but considering how long you will have the tub, it’s reasonable and oh so worth it.  As much as I like my Chanel Les Beiges and my MAC Mineralize SkinFinish, this is way better.

I’m pretty sure there’s not much more I can add about this well-loved product.  I wanted to write a review to show that this can be useful for those of us with a deeper skintone.  It’s available online and at many department stores that stock La Mer products.
What powder products are you loving lately? Stay blessed and thanks for stopping by.

  1. lately, I have been loving my YSL loose powder. it’s very light and sheer and I use it over my lancome foundation which gives me a very natural look. Will I repurchase it again when it’s finish? probably not, but for now it’s working and I love the mate finish look. Great post, I also don’t mind buying high end face product because not only they are amazing, they last you for a while. Great post.

    1. I’ve never tried the YSL loose powder, you make it sound good! I definitely like it when a product lasts a while, makes the upfront ouch less painful.

  2. I don’t have a lot of powder products. Bare Minerals are the only ones I have tried. I’m glad you found something that works for you. What did you think of the face cream?

    1. hey dear. I haven’t really tried the creams yet, I broke out in hives recently when I tried out yet another new product. I’m waiting till my skin calms down before I subject to something new. I can’t wait to try it though.

  3. La Mer products are really good, one of my favorites is the eye cream. Unfortunately, at least in my country, the prices have been raised so now I’m using another product (by Caudalie) and I’m fine with it.
But La Mer foundation is one of the best, also because I found a perfect color for me. I must say that I don’t use the powder often, but when I do, it’s a transparent one by Urban Decay.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by. I hear great things about the La Mer foundation, but I haven’t bothered looking coz the colour range looks limited. Glad that you found a great product that works for you from Caudalie.
