Summer Favourites 2014

IMG_1731The beauty of living in the land of 100+ degree weather, is that I don’t need to switch out to winter’s vampy colours for atleast another 2 months.  Yes, we melt for 9mos out of the year, but then we also get to wear light and bright make-up for much longer than the rest of the country!  So, here are my favourite products of Summer 2014…

La Mer the Powder – when used with a light hand this leaves such a light and airy veil on my skin.  With just the right amount of glow.  It’s not mattifying, but it just makes the skin look perfect.

Guerlain Sun Celebrations Terracota Bronzer – I especially love this since it’s a bronzer and duo blush all rolled into one. Guerlain comes out with the most amazing bronzers every year.  I’ve never really fallen for the hype, but now I totally get it.

Chanel Les Volumes Mascara – holy grail.  So lengthening, will always have one in my bag.

YSL Gloss Volupte in Opium Persan – Even after the novelty of the lip-shaped applicator wore off, I still love these glosses.  I don’t think there is anything amazing about the applicator, and it can make application tricky, but the formula itself is fantastic.

NYX Butter Glosses – absolutely fell in love with these.  Even gave some away in a giveaway earlier this year.  Which reminds me, hope you have entered my giveaway on Instagram, rules can be found here.

Maybelline Elixir in Mandarin Rapture – I love these.  Not too sticky.  I love a bright orange lippie for the summer.

Guerlain Rough G de Guerlain Lipstick – my double OO7 lipstick.  I feel so cool just holding the case, and the lipstick isn’t bad either.  Very moisturizing.  Planning on getting more during the VIB sale at Sephora because at $51 it’s a bit much for me.

Milani Powder blushes in Corralina and Bella Rosa.  Bella Rosa is so heavily pigmented, one wrong swipe and you could easily end up in clown territory, but its oh so glorious.  And Corralina, I want to call it a beach blush, when you are lazing somewhere on a beach in California and you have just the perfect sun-kissed glow and tan and you look perfect… that’s Corralina.

Marc Jacobs Blush in Promiscuous – this is a great understated, every day blush.  It’s very subtle and you can’t make a mistake with this one.  I’m planning on buying more blushes from this line.

Lorac Pro Palette – this palette has truly become my holy grail palette.  It’s a pity it’s not travel friendly.  Can you see the grooves in some of the colours?  I love how it’s a versatile mixture of shimmers and mattes.

Perfection Lumiere Foundation #94 – I recently heard that they are discontinuing this particular colour so I ran out and bought a back-up.  It makes no sense to me why Chanel would choose to get rid of their WOC colours that have been a hit with customers.  The new Perfection Lumiere Matte only goes as far as #70, the Perfection Lumiere I believe goes up to #154.  They are getting rid of #94 and #114, why not #104 which is a bloody red tomatoe #FAIL.  Why get rid of the two most popular WOC colours.  And I guess my ladies are picking them up as I had to to go 3 different stores to get my backup.  Very bad move Chanel.

Most of these items are available at my happy place, otherwise known as Sephora.  And CVS is a great place to buy Milani and NYX products, especially during their  BOGO sales.  La Mer and Guerlain products are mainly at high end department stores.

Thanks for stopping by.  Let me know, what were you loving for Summer 2014? What are you hoping to keep using for just a few more months?  Have you already ripped into the Fall 2015 collections yet?

  1. This summer was all about skincare. I’ve been loving all the products from Lush I’ve tried as well as Peter Thomas Roth and Salma Hayek’s line. I think you should really write Chanel a letter. In this social media age the pen is very mighty.

    1. I’ve heard that Chanel may be re-formulating some of those darker shades as some of them would oxidise. I am really hoping that is the truth. I am planning a letter, but I want to make sure I have my facts straight first.
