Guerlain Holiday Collection Night at the Opera 2014 – Petrouchka Palette

Petrouchka Palette and Meterorites

I was truly excited to buy this palette.  I fell for the the “it’s going to sell-out” hype on instagram, but last time I checked on Sephora it was still available.

Guerlain Petrouchka Palette The packaging on this is exquisite!  I fell for the packagaing hook line and sinker.  The little red elastic bow, the velour pouch and the red brush! Very well thought out and well coordinated.

My thoughts are that this looks fantastic on my desk/vanity.  I could stare at it all day.  The eyeshadow colours are very soft and blend very easily. The swatches on my arm were made using my fingertips and the colour was very easy to pick up.  The colours really just glide on.  This is a really well thought out palette with colours that work very well together.  With the exception of the most yellow shade I would most likely use all the colours.

I was a bit disappointed with the blush.  I get it, Guerlain is “grown-woman” make-up.  It’s subtle and not clown-like.  But with the exception of the coral shade, these were too subtle and sheer on my brown skin.  I feel like I packed it on for the swatches, and they barely show up.  And the more I packed on, the more powdery it felt.  I will have to be careful about which brush to use so as to prevent making a mess when I use it. The pale pink blush works best as a highlight for me, and I’ve heard other brown-skin beauties say they like to swatch all four shades together. Temptalia has a list of all the dupes on her website.

So, is it a must-have?  Well, it depends.  If you are a collector and love to have beautiful make-up on your vanity then by all means, get it.  Plus it’s actually very travel friendly, I can see myself taking just this on a business trip (and foundation, etc). That little red bow will keep the compact secure.

However, we all know that it’s pretty pricey.  I bought mine using a a 10% off coupon I had to Sephora so I feel a little better.  If you are fairer in complexion, and able to use the blushes, then you are actually getting a lot of product.  But I feel like since the blushes are mainly a dud for me, paying $90 for mainly eyeshadows is a bit wasteful.  If you must get it, I suggest waiting until the Sephora VIB sale.

As always, thanks for stopping by! I really appreciate it when you guys read my blog.  What does your Sephora VIB wishlist look like, mine is getting crazy.
