I was going to wait until December to do a big end-of-year empties post, but when the I saw the empties bag becoming quite full I thought it was time to trash the contents. Plus one of the items was making my hubby and daughter have bad reactions, so I didn’t want it sticking around any longer than necessary.
All in all, this was a good period for going through products.
YSL Touche Eclat in 6.5 – I love this product and will be re-purchasing soon, however a different shade. I prefer the #6 which is more peach and therefore makes an excellent corrector for my slightly dark eye circles. #6.5 is almost my perfect colour and therefore doesn’t do much in terms of highlighting for me. But that was my mistake for ordering the wrong shade, I just made it work as a concealer for my left-over blemishes. Highly recommended.
YSL BabyDoll Mascara – another item purchased quite by mistake, I thought I was ordering the YSL Volum Effet Faux Cils and bought this instead. This didn’t quite compare. Don’t get me wrong, it’s quite good, but it’s not $30 good, and for that kind of money I expect perfection. I get that from the other mascara, and it’s already in my stash. This one is not recommended.
Tarte Lights Camera Mascara – this was a freebie sample with the Tarte eyelash curler. It was nice, but nothing wow for me. I have the kind of short and straight eyelashes that need serious effects and quite frankly I’ve had drugstore mascara that was better than this… so, will not move forward with a full-size.
Guerlain Terracota Joli Teint Foundation in Ebony – too heavily fragranced for me. I know that Guerlain products always have a fragrance but this was too much for me. The colour was also a tad too dark/red. I didn’t even finish the sample. I’ve seen others who love this, but it just wasn’t right for me.
SuperGoop Everyday Moisturizer SPF 30 – I keep meaning to pick this up! I really liked it, no white cast and it didn’t break me out. Everything I look for in a daily moisturizer with high spf. I need to remember to pick it up next time I’m Sephora, this one is good.
MAC Prep-and Prime Moisturizer SPF 50 – break out city. This is a second sample I decided to try out and the results were just as disastrous as the first. Nice, huge cystic looking pimples, that left scars behind… grrrr. Didn’t even finish this sample and was happy to toss out. My boss at work loves it and kudos to her for it but it was just too heavy for my dry skin and seems to just sit on top of my skin rather than sink it.
Bobbi Brown moisturizer – at first I thought tis was breaking me out (in general I only have pimples once a month so it’s fairly easy to tell when a product is breaking me out). But the zits went away relatively quickly so I don’t think it was this product. I think I will have to try this again before I make a full-size commitment.
Algenist – I barely remember using this. I definitely do not recall any changes in the appearance on my pores while using this little itty bitty sample. Will have to try again before I can pass judgement.
Mario Badescue Glycolic Acid Toner – well…..if I didn’t have any options when it came to glycolic toners then I would consider this decent. I bought this when Ulta stopped stocking my favourite glycolic toner by Reviva Labs and I was desperate. Glycolic acid is my best friend! It’s not that I was disappointed in this, it was ok, but not as effective as I was used to. I would say this is more for folks with sensitive skin, but I’m used to the slight sting and this just left me wanting more. Once I went online and was able to get my hands on the real stuff (Reviva), well… it was just me… waiting for this to finish…. so I could use the real stuff! I will say for this product you do get a lot of product for the money. Recommended for those with sensitive skin, but otherwise, if you can find it, get the Reviva.
Dr. Bronners Lavender Coconut Lotion – I rue the day I bought this bloody product. First it broke my daughter out in hives after only one use. Then it had my husband sneezing a fit every time he walked past my dresser where it was stored. I used it one time on date night and he insisted I go to the bathroom and try to wash it off as he couldn’t stop sneezing or crying. it was horrible. The funny thing is, the bottle is labelled – light lavender scent. Talk about false advertising. I’m pretty sure this is still 90% full but toss I must.
Yes-To-Coconuts Facial Wipes – another not so good product. Holy crap this was not good. Will be sticking to Yes to Blueberries and Yes to Cucumbers. I can’t even explain why i hated this. But I did, and it stung, which was surprising as I tend to think of things with coconut oil is moisturizing and calming and hydrating and full of holy goodness.
Eclos Skin Prep Cleanser – already repurchased and in the shower. I love it, doesn’t strip my face too much.
Jane Carter Restore Moisture Mist – nice moisturizing leave-in detangler. I use it on my daughter’s hair. Has a great gentle scent too. Will repurchase soon, just need to make a bit more of a dent in my hair product stash.
Reviva Labs Sun Protective Moisturizer – it’s not labelled as such on the product, but online the spf is rated as 25. I liked this a lot. I find that one can’t go wrong with most of the Reviva Labs products. Natural, very few ingredients and effective. Whats not to love, plus it didn’t break me out and kept my skin protected. This will soon be repurchased, trying to make my way through a few more samples.
Hope you enjoyed seeing what I used up these last two months. What about you? Did you finish anything. I’m sure it felt good to chuck it all away.
