Hi Lovelies – all products purchased with my own funds.
Although I know that Primers are currently the be-all-and-all in relation to foundation application in the blogosphere, I for one have not been a big fan of them. I don’t like the way most of them feel, many leave either ashy or too shimmery and some just feel uncomfortable and too silicone-y. And I’ve tried high-end (Tom Ford), regular (Lancome La Base – which is actually one I do like) and drugstore (Japonesque) to name a few. I don’t review them coz well, I’ve been underwhelmed by most, except the Lancome, that one maybe. But finding the perfect one where I was willing to plunk my money down has been hard.
To be honest, as a dry skin girl I used to not see the need for primer. But I get a little older and the pores start to get just a little bigger I thought maybe a moisturizing primer might help. I couldn’t decided between two but I’m happy with the one I went with. I picked up the Marc Jacobs UnderCover Perfecting Coconut Face Primer during the last Sephora VIB sale for 20% off. Must respect the wallet and all of that.
For me, the best thing about this primer is that it does not have that silicone-y feel to it. In fact, you can see from the ingredient list that the silicones are not the main ingredient. All sorts of delicious coconut derived ingredients are at the top. Totally winning thus far.
I also like the consistency. It’s not runny, it doesn’t ball up under make-up and it has little to no shimmer so it’s not adding that “glowing” dimension. Which is where some primers fail for me. There’s a bit of skin smoothing, a smoother canvas for application. I can’t speak to its mattifying properties, as this isn’t a concern for me. The only time I get oily is during the summer, so maybe an update when the temps warm up. It’s also very light, honestly, if it had sunscreen in it I would use it as my daily moisturizer! I consider it closer to skin care than to a make-up base.
Here is the blurb from Neiman Marcus website – which reminds me, am I the last to know that someone other than Sephora now carries this line!
Experience the goodness of deconstructed coconut within this nutrient-rich, perfecting face primer that extends makeup wear while instantly creating a smooth and improved skin surface. Concentrated coconut extracts form an natural, vitamin-rich barrier between your skin and makeup. The coconut water-derived polysaccharide complex duplicates the effect of synthetic priming ingredients, allowing skin to breathe without compromising the skin-perfecting benefits. The refreshing result? Makeup wears longer and skin looks younger and better than ever.
Doesn’t it sound so lovely. I swear it is. Happy to have added this to my rotation. If you need a primer that’s more moisturizing, and breathable, while also giving you a great finish then this is it. What have you recently added to your rotation that you didn’t think your skin needed? Isn’t it wonderful to occasionally step outside the box and see what else is out there?
Stay blessed lovelies.
