So… if you follow me on IG then you know I recently entered a bikini competition. You know the one where you gain a lot of muscle, lose some fat and then walk around in a tiny little bikini while smiling like a maniac on stage. Yep, I entered the International Physique League Competition.
I couldn’t afford a make-up artist (on top of fees to enter, the photo session fees, the trainer fees, etc); but I figured since I am a make-up junkie, I have a friend who is into theater, and I have YouTube available to me, that I could do it myself. It was a big gamble but I was quite happy with the results.
This is what I came up with – what do you think?
I focused on contouring, highlighting, dark eyes and a neutral lip. I also wanted a lot of glitter and eyelashes so that my eyes could be seen from across the stage. The key to stage makeup is finding a focal point, mine was the dark eyes as I figured my lips are big enough (in an extremely good way).
I used the following items.
I wanted to try a whole smoky eye with glitter, but I generally shy away from the smoky eye because of my hooded lids. But I learned from YouTube how to try to create a crease, everything i need to know is on YouTube!
Smashbox Double Exposure Palette
Too Faced glitter glue – I had an itty bitty sample of this from an Ipsy bag.
Too Faced Glitter Dust
Marc Jacobs eyeliner
MAC Brick eyeshadow
MAC Spike eyebrows and ABH – these were strong and very IG appropriate, more than I would do on a daily basis.
For the Face
Too Faced Hangover Primer – I wanted my make-up to last all day!
CoverFX Cream Foundation in N90 – this was a no-brainer as this is the only cream foundation that I own and I knew it wouldn’t highlight any dry skin patches. I wanted full-on cake-face!
IT Cosmetic Bye Bye Undereye Concealer in Rich
Covergirl Queen Collection – I’m not good at contouring so this was a big of a gamble. I wanted cheekbones that can cut glass!
Coty Airspun Powder – I’m working on a review of this powder. I put this on my under-eyes while I worked the eye-shadow and it kept me fall-out free.
Ulta Makeup Setting Spray
Mario Badescue Aloe Vera
Milanie Blush in Lumioso and Giorgio Armani Sheer Fluid 12 for my Cheeks
I kept the lip extremely neutral based on the strong eyes. I used my beloved Chanel Coco Rouge in – its basically a my-lips-but-better and way more shiny lip colour.
NYX Lipliner in Brown
Chnael Lipstick in Rouge Coco Shine in 99 Melancolie
As you can see, between the bling on the bikini top, the diamante earrings and the big, big hair, this was a total glam look. I was surprised by how many of the girls who had their make-up done professionally went for more neutral looks. All I know is that I felt super-confident and I am glad I took the risk and initiative and believed that I could do it myself.
The only bad thing is that I did not take proper pictures of the process. But in my defense, besides getting ready for the show, I was also packing my kid up for a day with her dad and taking my sister to the airport for her trip back home to Botswana. Digging out a 2lb camera wasn’t a priority at the time.
Hope you liked it. I had a blast at the International Physique League show in Mesa Arizona. I promise to have a post about the experience up soon.
