The Road to the International Physique League Bikini Competition – Part 1 – The Why?

If you have read my previous two posts then you know that I recently entered a bikini competition.  It was a long process of over 6 months of hard work and fun, and just wanted to put it out there that if I can do it… any one else can!  But let me start from the beginning… 1o years ago.  hahaha.

so some time back my husband and I went to watch one of his friends compete in a bodybuilding show.  Now I like a man with muscle,  but what blew my mind that day was the women.  Ok, not the ones who are overly muscular, but i thought the women in the figure and bikini divisions were super attractive.  but when i asked about what it look to look like that… damn.  I was immediately discouraged by the diet that these athletes follow.  I then spent the next 9 years talking about how i wanted to look like these women, but doing not much more.   Don’t get me wrong, as a former dancer, I’ve always worked out, hell i worked out till i was 8 months pregnant.  but i also ate like i was pregnant for the last 10 years.  oh, the carb and alcohol struggle is real!!

but last year was a tough year for me.  work was kicking my ass and I had to deal with some other major issues that shook my belief in myself.  My coping strategy was to focus on me. I figured since no one else was interested in my well-being and happiness, it would do me good to focus on myself for a change.  So I started running.   many miles.  I lost 3lbs in a few months and I was feeling good.  I was eating less too, but still just winging it and trying to learn.  but I needed  wanted more.

So,  come October 2015 I made the decision.  I knew I wanted to lose about 10 more pounds but I needed something that would push me forward.  I decided that 2016 was the year I was finally going to enter a fitness show.  I found a trainer, I found a good diet prep, i cut out booze, I focused.  I set the goal and I persevered.  The big difference was hiring someone to help me, and learning to enjoy the process.  Seeing my body change kept me motivated.

The next post will have a more detailed account so stay tuned.

Here is the result.

  1. You look great! I’m currently thinking of entering a pageant and need motivation. The bathing suit portion is giving me pause.

    1. just close your eyes and do it. and practice in front of the mirror in your bathing suit. Dont let the bathing suit make you pause!
