July beauty Favourites

Guess what, I actually used makeup last month! I guess I got tired of sitting around looking at my bare face.

This month I actively decided to step up my game. Put on a face here and now. Actually went and bought real clothes.  That kind of thing. These are my favourites simply because they were used the most often.

For primer I focused on my Marc Jacobs Coconut Primer.  I don’t know if it helps my makeup last longer, but it helps the foundation sink in and feel good. It really makes my skin feel moisturized and supple and I use it under my morning moisturizer.

I watched an old video of mine where I rave about the Dior Star Forever foundation and it reminded me how much I love this one.  So glad I dug it out and started using it again.  No transfer, great colour match and keeps me matte.  I only neglected it because of the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation.  Can you say Holy Grail material.  Really, I think this foundation is part of the reason I decided to even wear make-up during the month of July.  It gives just the right amount of glow and such a natural looking finish that I forget I’m wearing it. If you can find a colour match, then the Chanel Les Beiges is highly recommended.

I used the Cover Fx Cream foundation on a few date nights.  This is best really for me during the winter when my skin is super dry, but its great for nights when I knew I would need touch-ups as it’s purse friendly.

The other items that were my go-tos this month included the Becca Luminous blush in Snapdragon – I don’t need to use a separate highlighter with this and who doesn’t love one less step.  If you haven’t you really need to pick this one up.  And the surprise hit for me was the Hikari blush/highlighter that came in an ipsy bag.  Not sure how it broke, so it will be tossed coz it’s now messy.  But it did give good blush.  I was afraid it was going to be too glittery but it turned out quite well.

I did keep it fairly neutral for the most part with natural looks thanks to the most amazing palette from Burberry.  Old Spice, even managed a few smokey eyes looks that were daytime appropriate.  Don’t sleep on Burberry cosmetics, I need to pick up more items  from this brand and want to try their foundations.

  1. Great Post. I don’t use a lot of Make-up and I normally stick to the same brands I have used over the years. Right now, I use the Mary Kay brand which I purchase from a friend whenever I run out. What are your thoughts on the Mary Kay brand?

    1. I have a few Mary Kay products in my stash. And I think they come out with good products here and there and think their skincare is good. I also like how they have always had foundations for women of colour. I could be tempted if I knew a rep, but to be honest, I am not a fan of their overall selling strategy so it makes me a bit less inclined to purchase from them. Full disclosure – I used to be rep so I have many thoughts on MK, maybe I’ll write a post one day.
