Clinique Take the Day Off Micellar Cleansing Towlettes

So I know, I swore of using makeup cleansing wipes some time back, but I had to try the Clinique Take the Day Off Micellar Cleansing Towlettes when I became aware of them.  It’s not that I don’t love cleansing wipes, I just didn’t find them effective.  One is never enough to get the job, and you end up using so many if you are using them to remove actual make-up.  But even with that back-story I still wanted to try these Clinique Cleansing Towlettes.

But having tried, and loved, the Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm from Clinique, I was excited to try the Take the Day Off Micellar Cleansing Towlettes.  Plus it was the words “micellar” in the name.  I don’t know if that’s a marketing ploy or if the liquids the wipes are saturated using the micellar technology, but either way, it worked in getting me to buy the product.

For $14 you get a pack of 50 generous size towelettes so the price point is quite reasonable.  Drugstore packs will typically run you $6-7 for a much smaller pack so I consider this version extremely reasonable.  And did I mention how large each wipe is?  One actually covers the my whole face.

So What do I think of these?

Do they get the job done?  So-so.  They are great in the sweaty gym situation and they do a decent job of removing foundation.  Using both sides I can make a  decent go at it, although I do follow with a 2nd wipe.  The second always picks up a small trace of foundation, blush, etc,. What about eye-make-up you ask?  well…. this thing is a beast around the eyes, and NOT in a good way.  Man, this bugger stings.  I mean literally has me crying and tears streaming down my face after trying to use to remove eyeshadow and mascara.  What is in this crap?  So frustrating as I was so ready to just absolutely love these. But I don’t.

Will I repurchase? No. It’s too much work, but I will use the rest of the pack and toss them in my gym bag. And I might use them the occasional late night when i am too drunk sleepy to do a full on cleanse.

What about you, are you still using facial wipes? which ones do you love, which do you detest? Thanks for stopping by.

  1. I used to use make-up remover wipes but I never really liked them for the same reasons you listed here and mostly for the fact that they were always too small in size and it gets really messy when you use several just to get the job done.

I like that this particular brand is generous in size and wide enough to cover the face but No..No..to the itchy eyes…:-) I’ll pass on them too.

    Great Review.

    1. And I really really wanted to love them. As long as I remember that I can’t use them for eyemakeup removal then we are good right? I think i need to give up on the idea of wipes as a whole.
