What do you do when you purchase a favoured mascara for the third time around and it totally loses its holy grail status for you?? Le big sigh. Every year, during the Nordstrom Macara Madness Event I purchase a YSL Volum Effet Faux Cils Mascara. I’ve tried it in different colours and in general have always loved it. But this latest tube made it lose its holy grail status for me.
No longer Holy Grail?
Why, has anything about the formula changed? Not that I am aware of. The YSL Volum Effet Faux Cils is one of those thick mascara that has a brush that leaves behind much product on your lashes to make them look fuller. That effect is still very intact, this mascara gives me fat lashes which I love. BUT – It’s a thick, wet mascara, that can leave behind other, less desirable effects. I am not happy any more.
My complaint, with the YSL Volum Effet Faux Cils Mascara has always been that it can be a bit goopy and it can get so clumpy. The brush always has a ton of product on it that you will need to wipe off so as not to end up with the dreaded racoon black eyes. I typically use it and then follow through with a second mascara brush just to clean it up a bit on my lashes. The effect is tremendous, I love the look of it. But for a $32 mascara, I just don’t think I should have to do anything “extra” to make it look amazing.
So I’ve moved on. My haul from the Nordstrom Mascara Madness event included my HG masacra – the Chanel Les Volumes Mascara and two new ones I wanted to try – Burberry and Charlotte Tillbury Fast Lashes. I’m looking forward to trying something new.
I will use the YSL till its done, I did spend $32 on it, but I won’t repurchase. Not when there are so many other good mascaras out there at the drugstore or a similar price point. So tell me, what other mascaras would you recommend? High-end, drugstore, I want to try it all!
Thanks for stopping by.
