I want to, I feel, that as a blogger, I should care. But quite frankly, meh. Everywhere I look on the blogosphere I see signs saying New York Fashion Week and I don’t bother to click on them. I see less and less people reading about them. And even the New
York Times had an interesting article about the evolution of the week. Which led me to ask – It’s New York Fashion Week – does anyone care?
For me, New York Fashion Week lost its luster when it became more about outside than inside the show. I want to see clothes, makeup, models. Not fucking who is sitting on the front row and carrying a birkin. Boring. And the line up of designers, my interest definitely falls more in line with European designers. I’m so old school, give me Oscar and Carolina, maybe Ralph; who are the rest of these folks. Maybe I am just old, and too broke to be interested in New York Fashion Week. Seriously, my clothing budget limits me Zara and the Saks/Neiman Marcus clearance racks at the outlets. Handbags are more forgiving than clothes. I hear the financial impact of the week on New York is more about the business of the week and not about the clothes.
But still, the SEO chiefs demand a sacrifice. Are you interested in New York Fashion Week? Does it have an impact on your shopping habits? Are you watching the new and upcoming trends or are the paparazzi photos of Rihanna more appealing. What are your thoughts, is it even still relevant or is the instant accessibility of the internet killing seasonal fashion shows? If I can watch it all live then where is the mysticism and veil of fashion gods, who needs the editors and style purveyors to tell us how to dress? It will be interesting to see the breakout clothes and styles when it is all said and done.
Thankfully for New York Fashion Week, my views on this matter do not matter! LOL.
